I’m thrilled to share photos from the installation of “Thresholds” - a group show featuring my original abstract oil paintings - on the walls of the Yellow Studio Gallery in Cross River, New York.
I’m thrilled to share that my new body of work entitled “Thresholds” is opening at the Yellow Studio Gallery in Cross River, New York on October 19th and will be on view until November 15th. Read on to learn more.
Do you believe in making resolutions as we leave one year and enter another? For a long time, starting in my adolescence and into adulthood, I thought making resolutions was necessary if I wanted to be successful. But, a few years ago I started a practice that changed my thinking around the ways we truly are able to look forward, learn, achieve, evolve, and become the best versions of ourselves.
I’m excited to share that my work was selected for The Collective - a group show with Visionary Projects at the High Line Nine Galleries in Chelsea.
I’ve been thinking about my tendency to try to convince myself that I shouldn’t be nervous about a situation. I want to own my feelings and let myself experience whatever I need to experience so why block myself from important emotions? Well, experimenting is an important part of my art practice and as someone who is usually nervous about and overthinking on all the things, this idea of embracing all the feelings (especially the hard ones) has finally made its way into other areas of my life. What a concept! The freedom!
I’d love to meet you this weekend as I open my studio doors for the annual RiverArts Studio Tour!
This summer I was lucky enough to attend my first artist residency. High on a hill above the ancient Valle Camonica in the town of Cividate Camuno in Lombardy, surrounded by the majestic embrace of the Italian Alps, stands RUC. This mystical place is an ancestral home where artists from all over the world come to work in and be inspired by nature and history.
At the end of 2022 I achieved a goal that I set for myself several years ago. I was inducted into the National Association of Women Artists at the National Arts Club. My path to this moment was not linear (unsurprisingly).

This is the photograph that changed the trajectory of Monica’s career. Actually, this is the photograph that changed her life. She shot it in 2006 with my brand new digital camera that she was adamantly against because she was a film girl. She was in the Hamptons on the east end of Long Island and both the ocean and her mind and heart were wild. She had no idea the can of worms that she had just opened but about a year and a half later she quit her job as an attorney and started down a completely different and terrifying path. Since then this photo has been hung on walls everywhere from Spain to Argentina to Thailand and even her own living room. It’s called “Vivo” and for Monica it’s a reminder of that moment and the fact that anything is possible even if it’s beyond your wildest dreams.

Black and white photography is at the root of Monica’s vision as a photographer. Developing photos in her family home basement with her dad was Monica’s first introduction to photography and she started to see the world in shades of black and white. This image was captured on a New York City sidewalk and even with its anonymous figures and shadows, the energy in the light is palpable. Monica's black and white images of Manhattan are a visual storytelling celebration of shadow, light, and shape.

The ocean has always been an endless source of inspiration for Monica. Always willing to do anything to get the shot and bring her vision to life, Monica climbed the rocks and hiked up the side to where the water met the shore. She was so inspired by the way the water crashed against the rock wall that she was standing on when she took the photo and the patterns that the water seemed to grind into the stone. This powerful image will add depth to any space.

Oil on canvas
A lot of my work is driven by personal narratives. Being a first generation American with Spanish as my first language, shifting careers from corporate lawyer to full time Artist, and becoming a mother after years of struggling with infertility. When I look at the body of my work, starting over a decade ago to now, there’s a big focus for me on these themes of change and evolution, and this idea of duality and straddling worlds. I’ve been recognizing that my work, especially my current paintings, are created in an emotional response to that.
This piece is named “It’s Nearly Light” because I thought about the shift between night and morning when the world isn’t quite awake but I’m there in the quiet knowing that there is so much that the new day will bring and that’s where I like to live.
Mixed media oil paint and oil pastel contemporary art on stretched linen canvas
60x72
This painting is inspired by one of Monica’s favorite neighborhood’s in New York - where Chelsea meets the Meatpacking district underneath the Highline. The energy of that area of New York, just like all other parts of the city, is palpable and Monica wanted to capture the colorful, nonstop movement of the people, streets and lights against the concrete backdrop that is Manhattan. It’s part of the “Ghosts That We Knew”.
This painting is on raw, un-stretched canvas and can be stretched and framed or framed in a floating frame as in the photo. It can also be hung directly on the wall, as is.
54 inches by 78 inches
Gesso and oil on canvas raw canvas

Oil on Canvas
Monica took inspiration from the bright colors of the Palisades and the Hudson River and the wildlife outside her studio window. On a daily basis she will see and hear everything from sparrows to hawks to crows to cranes and even, on occasion, an eagle.

I am thrilled to share that my exclusive artwork is on display and for sale on the 7th floor of Bergdorf Goodman in New York City with Chairish! It’s an honor to be a part of this dream collaboration!
