16x20 Black and white oil painting from Monica's new series entitled Ebb and Flows.  This ongoing body of work is inspired by a black and white photograph from Monica's archive taken on the shores of the Greek island of Santorini.  

Inspired by the way the cool, smooth, flowing water of the sea broke against the rough, rocky shore, Monica has created a collection of images using various mediums that seem at once urgent yet calming, and relaxing yet uncomfortable, using texture and strong contrasts in different shades of black and white.  In "You Promised" Monica focuses on strong textures and varying shades of white with dark gray undertones and layers to create movement and depth.
